Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, says the recommendations to lift the ban on Twitter in Nigeria will apply to all social media platforms in the country.
The minister said this on Monday, October 18, when he featured on ‘This Morning’, a program by Television Continental (TVC).
The federal government had announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operations in the country on June 4, while expressing concern over “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
Mohammed has now disclosed that the recommendations by the team negotiating with Twitter on the suspension of the social media platform would be submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He added that the engagements with the social media platform have been “positive and fruitful”.
“All I can say is that the recommendations we are going to make will not only be applicable to Twitter, but they will be applicable to all OTTs and other social media platforms in Nigeria,” he said.
“Today, we are dealing with Twitter. We don’t want a situation where we will be dealing with Facebook tomorrow and Instagram the next day. Our recommendations will be very comprehensive.
“You will recall that during the 61st Independence anniversary celebration, the president said Twitter will return to Nigeria as soon as they meet the conditions of government.
“Even last night, the ministerial team met under my chairmanship and we reviewed the position of things.
“I want to say that we should wait for the committee to officially give its reports to the president, but things are looking very positive and rosy.
“After submitting our reports and recommendations to the president, I will be disposed to say what we agreed and what has been met and what has not been met.”
BREAKING: US Breaks Silence On EndSARS Panel Report, Tells FG What To Do
US has broken silence on EndSARS panel report.
Bennievibezreports that the the United States government led by President Joe Biden, has welcomed the conclusion of work by the Lagos State Panel for victims of SARS related abuses and other matters in Nigeria.
This online news platform understands that the judicial body investigated petitions on Police brutality as well as Army’s invasion and shooting at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020 during End SARS protests.
The EndSARS panel chairman, Justice Doris Okuwobi (retired) submitted the report at the Lagos House in Ikeja, the Lagos state capital, on Monday, November 16, 2021.
The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the findings, recommendations and set up a four-member committee.
The team led by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), will come up with a White Paper in two weeks.
Responding to the #EndSARS panel report, the US Mission in Nigeria in a statement on Tuesday, November 16, said America awaits the response from President Muhammadu Buhari government and Lagos authorities.
The US Embassy said official actions are part of a process that represents an important mechanism of accountability regarding the EndSARS protests and the events at the tollgate.
“Those events led to serious allegations against some members of the security forces”, the statement reads.
“We look forward to the Lagos State and federal governments taking suitable measures to address those alleged abuses as well as the grievances of the victims and their families.”
Borno Deputy Speaker recounts how ISWAP terrorists burnt down his elder brother’s house
Abdullahi Musa Askira, the Deputy Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly, has recounted how suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Provinces (ISWAP) burnt down his elder brother’s house during a recent attack.
Askira said the incident took place after ISWAP terrorists carried out an attack on Chan Chan Dana Community in Askira Uba’s local government area of the state on Wednesday, November 10.
He also stated that before the terrorists came to his village, troops had gone to their enclave to dislodge them.
The Deputy Speaker told Daily Trust;
“There was an attack by insurgents in my hometown yesterday, they razed down the house of my late elder brother who was the village head before he died almost a year ago.
“I’m the one who built it for him; but it’s not my house… Before they came to attack my village earlier in the day, troops had gone to their enclave and dislodge them. So, it is unfortunate that they still struck. However, we shall continue to support our troops who are working to ensure there is peace in our domain.”
With NIN, the identity of any Nigerian on the internet will be known -Isa Pantami
The minister of communications and digital economy Isa Pantami has revealed what he hopes to achieve with the National Identification Number (NIN).
Speaking during the Nigeria International Partnership Forum in Paris, meant to strengthen ties between Nigeria and France in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic he said NIN will ensure that the identity of citizens and legal residents who log into the internet is known.
“Some of these initiatives that happen to be the foundation of even our economy is the introduction of the national identification number. Nigeria has joined the global community by making the use of national identification numbers for both citizens and legal residents mandatory,” he said.
“This is going to be the foundation of our economy and also the foundation of our security that whoever happens to go online, his identity will be known by the federal government and also by our security institution.
“As in our constitution 1999 as amended section 14(2)(b), that the primary responsibility of government is security and safety of its citizens, it is because of this that President Muhammadu Buhari is very passionate about that and he has been pushing that we establish the foundation of our economy and the foundation of our security on the national identification number so that identity of our citizens and legal residents will be known,
“As it is today, the enrollment has been over 67 million and most importantly we are able to capture the most important category of people that come out to do businesses.”
“So it becomes a prerequisite to enjoying government services and I believe this will bring more peace of mind to potential investors to know that the government has been doing something significant in that regard,” he said.
“Recently the country has also launched and commissioned a national center for artificial intelligence and robotics that focuses more on research and coming up with innovative solutions in the area of security and now the center in collaboration with security institutions is in the process of developing robots and many more that are going to be deployed to make our country safe and sound.”

‘Stop Wasting Your Time’ – IPOB ‘Repel Fulani Terrorists’ Attack In Enugu
The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has claimed to have frustrated an attack on some communities in Enugu state by killer Fulani herdsmen.
In a statement by Emma Powerful its spokesperson, IPOB alleged that the Fulani Terrorists’ tried to take advantage of the Anambra governorship election to attack the state on Saturday.
Although the communities allegedly attacked by the herdsmen were not revealed, Powerful said the attack was foiled by members of its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
In the statement titled, “While Anambra Election Was Going, On Jihadists Came to Attack Biafra Communities In Enugu But Were Repelled By ESN – IPOB,” the group asked sponsors of the terrorists to “stop wasting their time.”
The statement read, “We are the Indigenous People of Biafra under the command and leadership of our liberator and prophet Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We wish to reiterate that the mandate of the Eastern Security Network, ESN is to pursue Fulani terrorists, bandits, and killer herdsmen hiding in the bushes and forests of Biafraland.
“ESN was created to ensure these bloodsuckers are not allowed any breeding space in Biafra land. This security outfit has been living up to its responsibility, and Biafrans home and in the Diaspora are very proud of our gallant men and women serving in ESN.
“The enemies and their sponsors thought they could take us unawares but unfortunately for them, our gallant ESN operatives keep vigil over the entire Biafra land 24 hours.
“While the election in Anambra State was going on, the enemies deployed terrorists disguising as herdsmen to Enugu State to attack unsuspecting Biafrans but the vigilance of our ESN operatives paid off as these agents of death and sorrow were repelled.
“No matter how hard they try we will not allow any inch of Biafra land to be invaded by terrorists again. Never again shall ESN and IPOB allow Biafran women and girls to be raped by uncircumcised terrorists. We shall continue to defend our ancestral land no matter the price!
“We warn the sponsors of these jihadists and their foot soldiers to stop wasting their time because no part of Biafra land will be occupied by terrorists.
“We again call on the Fulani-controlled Federal Government of Nigeria to organize a referendum for Biafra people to decide on whether or not they want to continue to belong to Nigeria or have their own country. The forced marriage by Britain can no longer work.
“Biafrans are tired of staying together with mass murderers. We can’t continue to live in a country where the lives of our people have no values. We will no longer belong to a country where cows are valued above human lives. We want to stay on our own where we can guarantee the lives and safety of our people.
“We assure Biafrans that ESN operatives will continue to stand on the watchtower since the hypocritical Nigerian security agents have refused to protect our people against Fulani killer squad masquerading as herdsmen.”
