A 62-year-old woman has died while combating for coronavirus palliative shared by the Rivers state government in Elele Kingdom, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.
According to Vanguard, the deceased, Mrs. Florence Onuobodo arrived at the venue with others waiting to get the palliatives. A stampede ensued and she was trampled upon by others who were also fighting to collect the food items. 4 other women including a 91-year-old woman sustained varying degrees of injury during the stampede.
Commenting on the incident, a counselor representing Elele, ward 4, at Ikwerre LGA Legislative Assembly, Emmanuel Amadi, contradicts the allegation that the process for sharing the palliatives was poorly managed. He said it was unfortunate that the deceased died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where she was rushed to.
